Interview with Tayla Lynn of Stealing Angels

How often do you get to talk to Loretta Lynn’s Granddaughter? I had that pleasure a few days ago when I talked to Tayla Lynn about the band she is in “Stealing Angels”. There are more names that you might recognize further down.
A while back there was one of those rare Sunday shows at the Grizzly Rose. I didn’t write about it at the time because I reviewed two of those bands a couple times, and really it was just going to be a FUN show for me. Sunday shows mean a lot of kids, very enthusiastic kids that love their country music. My impression of Stealing Angels was that it was a well put together country act, perfect for today’s country radio. I was impressed with the sound and how the band handled the crowd. When Mich, my daughter, goes to a show she is like me. She pushes her way to the front [of the crowd], rocks out, and tries for a souvenir. The Angels gave her a set list that was on the back of their 8 x 10 promo picture, and to top it off its signed by all three girls.
I had to jump at the chance for an interview. Here is some insight into what they are all about.
DMM – How did Stealing Angels come about?
Talya – We were brought together about five years ago by Anastasia Brown to do a reality show based on our heritage. My Grandmother is Loretta Lynn, Jennifer Wayne’s Grandfather is John Wayne, and Caroline Cutbirth is a descendant of Daniel Boone. Before the show we were all solo artists. Everyone thought that we would fight but we fell in love and formed a group.
D – Do you write together?
T – Actually that’s how we became a trio. We started writing and singing on each others demos and it went from there.
D – I was listening to Little Blue Sky the other day, are the radio stations starting to pick it up?
T – They sure are! More and more each day.
D – How big of an influence is someone like the Dixie Chicks for you?
T – We are all three HUGE fans of the Dixie Chicks…Huge! They definitely influence our music.
D – I heard a lot of their influence on Blue Sky…
T – Well you know we have the same producer, Paul Worley. He also works with Lady A.
D – Are you Racing fans? How was it doing the National Anthem at the Wypall 200?
T – It was a great time, we love NASCAR
D – You have been touring a lot, and with a lot of big names. Is there any idea who you will be going out with next, or will it be a solo tour?
T – We have been out with Tim McGraw, Lady A, Kid Rock and so many more. Here soon we have a couple shows with Craig Morgan and John Rich.
D – Craig Morgan is great. Have you seen him live before?
T – We have. We did a few shows with Craig. We went to Iraq in July and since Craig was in the military for years he gave us a bunch of tips before we left. He’s a sweetheart.
D – Thank You for your time, just one more question if I may…
When we saw you at the Grizzly Rose, I saw a ton of very impressed little girls. What’s it like being a role model to so many kids?
T – Well we definitely keep that in mind. If we see any little girls in the audience we will pull them up and get them on stage with us. We definitely like the idea of being a positive influence.

Meet Tayla Lynn From Stealing Angels
By: Markos Papadatos
Stealing Angels consists of Jennifer Wayne, Tayla Lynn and Caroline Cutbirth. Broken Records Magazine’s Papadotas chatted with Tayla Lynn, who is the granddaughter of country music living legend Loretta Lynn.
Tayla reveals that Stealing Angels are inspired musically by Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin, Loretta Lynn, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn and Shania Twain.
All three songstresses met in Nashville while writing and performing. Regarding their first impressions of each other, Tayla says, “When any girl meets any other girl that they are going to do business with, they measure each other up. We became fast, fast friends. We all just really liked each other from the very start!”
Their latest single “Little Blue Sky” will be available for purchase on iTunes on November 8, 2011. The tune was co-written by Stealing Angels and Keith and Adrienne Follese. “It is a fun, upbeat and positive song. We had written it the very next day after we watched the movie My Sister’s Keeper. In the film, the girl tells her sister that she will always be her ‘little blue sky,’ and we thought it would make a great song, and we wrote it really fast,” Tayla acknowledges.
On November 12, 2011, Stealing Angels will be performing the national anthem at the 2011 WYPALL* 200 race in Phoenix, Arizona. They are also expected to perform a concert on the midway prior to the race.
“We love doing the national anthem,” Tayla says.” We actually just got back from Iraq two months ago, so we are very patriotic. We love our country, and we are excited about that, and we love Phoenix.”
On their plans for the future as a vocal trio, Tayla shares, “to get the single up the charts, and to keep working on our personal lives and finding a balance; to keep on making videos, great music and to keep playing show.”
On a personal note, Tayla reveals that she recently got engaged. “I just got engaged to an awesome guy from Seattle, Washington. We are both really outgoing, and on our first date we knew that we were going to get married! We got engaged within two months.
For their fans, Tayla concludes, “hit us up on Facebook and Twitter, and request “Little Blue Sky.”
